*Core Vaccines
At Dr. Dan’s, our vaccination protocol is in accordance with the recommendations of the American Association of Feline Practitioners. We recommend that all cats be kept current on their “core” vaccines. The core vaccines are the Rabies vaccine and the FVRCP combination vaccine [this vaccine vaccinates against feline panleukopenia (feline distemper virus), feline rhinotracheitis virus and feline calici virus (the latter two are respiratory viruses). These viruses can be spread from cat-to-cat by direct contact, as well as via air (i.e., they are "air-borne" viruses, meaning that there is potential for indoor cats to be infected, as well as outdoor cats.)] The Rabies vaccine is regulated by the State of New Hampshire. It is required by law for all cats. We use only non-adjuvant vaccines. We give the three year vaccines whenever possible to decrease the number and frequency of vaccinations we give.
Non-core Vaccines
Non-core vaccines, which are recommended only for cats at risk of exposure (i.e., they are not required by law and they are not air-borne) include Feline Leukemia Virus vaccine (FeLV), Feline Immunodeficiency Virus vaccine (FIV), Feline Infectious Peritonitis vaccine (FIP), Feline Kennel Cough vaccine (Bordetella) and Microsporum Canis vaccine (ringworm).
